Cookies

Roche uses cookies to enhance the user experience within our Site as well as to maintain access security. These cookies will not damage your computer's hardware, files or software in any way.

Most browsers today allow users to set cookie preferences to accept all cookies, warn users before accepting cookies, or always reject cookies set by Web servers if a user prefers. Furthermore, browsers such as Internet Explorer® and Firefox® allow users to cleanse existing cookies from their hard drives.

When you visit our Site, we assign a unique visitor ID to a cookie file stored on your computer. This code is generated at random to enable us to "remember" you the next time you visit. This technique enables us to better serve you by providing content that is tailored to your specific interests and needs, and to facilitate quicker and easier log-in for you by remembering your password. Cookie information is neither connected to external data sources nor passed on to any outside party that is not connected with us.

While cookies allow an enhanced user experience, they are not necessary to use our Site - except where strict security access controls are in place. Access to our Site will not be interrupted if users choose not to accept cookies, but certain features may not be available.

Web beacons

Roche Sites and emails may use a technology known as web beacons that allows the collection of web log information. A web beacon is a tiny graphic on a web page or in an email message designed to track pages viewed or messages opened. Web log information is gathered when you visit one of our Sites by the computer that hosts our Site (called a "webserver").

We may use web beacons to help determine which email messages sent by us were opened and whether a message was acted upon. Web beacons also help analyze the effectiveness of Sites by measuring the number of visitors to a site or how many visitors clicked on key elements of a site.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is used to help make our website work better and to help us understand what parts of the website are being utilized. Google Analytics uses technical tools, such as first-party cookies and JavaScript code, to collect information about visitors. Google Analytics service tracks visitors to the site who have JavaScript enabled. Google Analytics anonymously and pseudonymously tracks how visitors interact with a website, including where they came from and what they did on a site. Google Analytics collects the information set forth above from users.

This information is used to administer and update the website, and we will also assess whether the visitors to the site match the expected site demographics and determine how key audiences are navigating the content.

First-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) will be used to report how your ad impressions, other uses of ad services, and interactions with these ad impressions and ad services are related to visits to this site. More information is available in our Cookie Policy.

  1. Opt-Out Provision:
Google analytics offers an opt-out provision for website visitors who wish to limit the use of their data. You can receive more information about this option here.
  2. Google's Use of Data:
Google and its wholly owned subsidiaries may retain and use, subject to the terms of its Privacy Policy, information collected in your use of the Google Analytics Information Disclosures and Sharing.

Do Not Track

There are different ways you can prevent tracking of your online activity. One of them is setting a preference in your browser that alerts Sites you visit that you do not want them to collect certain information about you. This is referred to as a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) signal. Please note that currently our Sites and web-based resources do not respond to these signals from web browsers. At this time, there is no universally accepted standard for what a company should do when a DNT signal is detected.

Advertising policy

We do not host or receive funding from advertising. From time to time, we may offer content provided through partnerships with other companies.

Third parties to whom information may be disclosed

None of the information you provide on this Site will ever be sold, swapped or rented for commercial purposes. OUR POLICY ON COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

Effective June 15, 2018

This website is owned and operated by Roche Diagnostics Corporation located at 9115 Hague Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250. Roche may update this notice at any time by publishing changes on this page. You should visit this page from time to time to review these updates.

What are cookies?

Cookies save you the trouble of reentering certain information in some registration areas, help to deliver content-specific information to you, and track which sections of the site are most popular. A ‘cookie’ is actually a file that our web server or the web server of one of our third-party partners may send to your computer when you access one of our sites. This file is then stored on your computer.

Why do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?

We use cookies and related technologies for the following purposes:

  • After you have entered personal information into a form or data field on our site, cookies enable the site to ‘remember’ that information, should you so choose.
  • Cookies and other passive information collection technologies enable us to deliver content that is tailored to your interests and preferences based on your past activity on the site.
  • Cookies and other passive information collection technologies enable us to compile aggregate statistics concerning use of the site, analyze trends, and otherwise administer and improve the site.

What types of personal information is collected through the use of cookies?

Cookies may obtain information identifying your computer or browser as well as information relating to your browsing session and login state. The information we obtain through the use of cookies will be combined with other personal data relating to you.

What types of cookies and other tracking technologies do we use?

Our site may use the following types of cookies and tracking technologies, among others:

  • “Session” cookies: Session cookies are temporary bits of information that are erased once you exit your web browser window or otherwise turn your computer off. Session cookies are used, for example, to improve navigation on our web sites, block visitors from providing information where inappropriate (e.g., the site may remember previous entries of age that are outside the permitted parameters and block subsequent changes) and to collect aggregated statistical information.
  • “Persistent” cookies: Persistent cookies are more permanent bits of information that are placed on the hard drive of your computer and stay there unless you delete the cookie. Persistent cookies store information on your computer for a number of purposes, such as retrieving certain information you have previously provided (e.g., Login ID), helping to determine what areas of the web site visitors find most valuable, and customizing the web site based on your preferences on an ongoing basis.
  • “Web beacons” (also known as internet tags, single-pixel GIFs, clear GIFs, and invisible GIFs): A web beacon is a piece of software code on a web page or in an e-mail message that is used to track pages viewed or messages opened. Web beacons tell the web site server information such as the IP address and browser type related to the visitor's computer. Web beacons may be placed in online advertisements that bring people to our site and on different pages of our site. Web beacons provide us with information on how many times a page is opened and which information is consulted.
  • Our site uses two Google Analytics Advertising Display Features, which are collect information through cookies: Remarketing with Google Analytics and Demographics and Interests reporting. Information on opt-outs for certain targeted advertisement delivery is available below.

Why do we allow third-party partners to place cookies on your computer?

Like most advertisers, we place advertisements where we think they will be most relevant to customers. One way we do so is by allowing network advertising companies with whom we work to place their own cookies when an individual visits our site. This enables the network advertising company to recognize individuals who have previously visited our site. When the individual visits a third-party web site on which that network advertising company has purchased ad space, the advertising company can then recognize the individual’s interest in Roche products and services and deliver one of our advertisements.

How does our site respond to web browser “Do Not Track” signals?

Certain web browsers and other programs may be used to signal your preferences to Roche about how or whether Roche or third parties may collect information about your online activities. Currently, Roche does not respond to such signals.

What choices do you have regarding the delivery of targeted advertisements on third-party sites?

The Digital Advertising Alliance (www.AboutAds.info/choices) and European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (www.youronlinechoices.com) maintain websites where consumers can opt out from receiving interest-based advertising from some or all of the network advertising companies participating in the program.

In addition, most internet browsers allow you to change your browser settings to notify you when you receive a cookie, which lets you choose whether or not to accept it, or to automatically refuse all cookies. Please be aware that some functionality of our web site that relies on the use of cookies may not be available should you choose to refuse all cookies. Please see our Privacy Notice for more information regarding your rights to access, correct, and delete Personal Data.

As discussed in our Privacy Policy, Google Analytics offers certain opt-out capabilities for website visitors who wish to limit the use of their data. You can receive more information about this option here.
